Challenge

The Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commission needed a partner to help them meet new opportunities and increase their social impact. Following the introduction of new ‘positive duty’ laws in the NT in 2024, the Commission identified a strategic opportunity to measure social impact outcomes. The goal was to align key stakeholders, investment, and resourcing over a five-year period to significantly enhance the Commission’s impact within the community.

Solution

ImpactInstitute led a face-to-face strategic planning and review process over an intensive one-week period. Using an empathetic, person-centred approach grounded in deep sector experience, academic research, impact reporting, and world-class storytelling, the team delivered a whole-of-organisation strategy. This included stakeholder engagement, refreshed foundational statements, an impact framework and measurement plan, a strategic plan-on-a-page with supporting documents, an implementation plan, and a brand refresh.

Outcome

The comprehensive five-year strategic plan positions the Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commission to lead with clarity, purpose, and measurable impact. Aligned to internal resources and external partnerships around a shared vision, the plan enables the Commission to respond proactively to the ‘positive duty’ legislation. It’s a strategic foundation for delivering equitable outcomes, building public trust, and adapting to emerging social justice challenges – hallmarks of high-performing human rights institutions.
