Practical AI for social impact
Understand what you can do with AI today, and how it can support stronger impact over time.
Event details
Date: Thursday 28 May 2026
Time: 12:00pm – 1:00pm AEST
Many organisations working in social impact have started experimenting with AI.
People are testing prompts, exploring tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude and Gemini, and asking practical questions about how AI might help them work faster or get unstuck.
What is less clear is where self‑service experimentation ends, and where more structured approaches begin.
This Social Impact Summit Quarterly is a practical, demonstration‑led session focused on how AI can be used today to support impact strategy, measurement and storytelling, without losing rigour, judgement or human insight.
We’re pleased to welcome Sam Calabrese, Director of Communications and Campaigns at Minderoo Foundation, who will share insights from recent national research into Australians’ attitudes towards AI.
Together, we’ll cover how people are feeling about AI today, what is driving trust (and distrust), and what this means for organisations working in human-centred, high-stakes environments.
We’ll explore the difference between:
- What organisations can reasonably do on their own using off‑the‑shelf AI tools, and
- Where more structured tools, systems and specialist support can dramatically accelerate progress
From there, we will walk through a small number of practical applications, showing how AI is already being used in real‑world impact work, including:
- How individuals and teams can use existing AI tools to start or strengthen impact work themselves
- Ways AI can support research, stakeholder input and early analysis, helping teams move faster without lowering quality
- What becomes possible when AI is designed into impact processes from the outset, rather than used as an add‑on tool
This Quarterly is designed as a preview of the deeper, hands‑on workshop at Social Impact Summit, where more advanced applications, tools and use cases will be explored.
If you are already experimenting with AI and want clearer direction, or if you are looking for ways to use AI to accelerate your impact journey, this session will give you grounded insights and practical next steps.
