Turning outcomes data into meaningful stories on Country with Saltbush NT
Challenge
Saltbush NT works alongside Aboriginal people and communities across the Northern Territory, delivering place based programs that support connection to culture, Country and community.
While the organisation had strong outcomes data and reporting in place, there was a desire to strengthen how that evidence was brought to life. Staff across programs found it challenging to consistently link frontline practice with impact data in ways that clearly showed how change was happening on the ground.
There was a clear need for a shared, culturally safe approach to storytelling that could support learning, reporting, and engagement with partners and stakeholders.
Solution
ImpactInstitute delivered two Storytelling for Impact workshops as part of a broader team strategy event: one for the executive team and one for frontline staff.
The sessions were tailored to reflect different roles and responsibilities while working from a shared framework. Together, they focused on how to connect outcomes and indicators with lived experience, using stories to complement data rather than compete with it.
Through practical examples and activities, participants explored how to identify strong story moments, capture participant voice ethically, and communicate impact with clarity and confidence.
Outcome
The workshops helped build a more consistent and organisation wide approach to storytelling at Saltbush NT.
Leaders gained clearer insight into how stories could support strategy, accountability and decision making, while frontline staff left with practical tools they could apply immediately in their work.
As a result, Saltbush NT is now better equipped to communicate impact in ways that are evidence informed, grounded in everyday practice, and respectful of participant voice, culture and community context.
